Description Gardeners with the need for a narrow, erect, columanr tree will find that the beech cultivar called Red Obelisk is highly desirable.

  Morphology:
This is a deciduous tree that will eventually grow to 40’ in height but only stay 5’ or less in width. The growth of this spire is considered to be slow. It has irregular and undulating leaves. They emerge bright pink and red in the spring, latter maturing to dark burgandy latter in the summer.

  Adaptation:
Beech is tolerant of city environments with their compacted soils, ozone from air pollution, and salt from the roads. Don’t plant this tree on sites with standing water however.
