Description The Kousa dogwood cultivar Samaritan is popular in the nursery trade for its variegated cream and green summer foliage.

  Morphology:
This is a deciduous garden tree that grows to 25” in height and 20’ in width. Its foliage opens with pink tinged leaves later turning to the characteristic variegated foliage. In the fall look for a radiant pink and burgundy coloration before the leaves are shed.

The white bracts, resembling flowers, emerge in late spring. In the fall these morph to the classic red ball fruits.

This plant has a patent from its originator Lake County Nursery in Ohio.

  Adaptation:
Look for well drained soil. It does best in partial shade so as to not burn out the foliage.

  Pests:
This cultivar has very good leaf anthracnose resistance.
